DTN COMMENTS: A handful of live trade has been reported in parts of Nebraska
this afternoon, but the bulk of trade has been completed for the week.
Asking prices for cattle left on showlists are around $202-plus in the
South, and $323-plus in the North.
This week live deals in Kansas and Texas have been marked at mostly $201,
steady to $1 higher than the prior week's weighted averages. Dressed sales
in Nebraska and Iowa have been done at mostly $322, $2 higher than the
previous week's weighted averages. When summary reports are released on
Monday it is more than likely that we will see another round of record-
breaking highs for the third week in a row.
Today's slaughter totaled 114,000 head, 9,000 more than a week ago, but
6,000 less than last year. Saturday's kill is estimated at 1,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 603,000 head, 14,000 greater than the prior
week, but 2,000 below 2024. Cattle futures closed mixed, mostly lower on
both live (down 40 to up 22) and feeder (off 50 to 32 higher) contracts.
Beef cutouts are expected to close higher with light to moderate box
movement.
